Cement is the most suitable binder material for making products which will be exposed to water, high levels of humidity, strong impacts and the elements.

Plasterboards are used extensively in the construction markets but they are not the best product for all applications. Gypsum loses its integrity and deteriorates when exposed to water and high humidity (cement does not). Paper facers act as nutrients that support mold growth. Organic chemicals can improve the wet performance of plasterboard but only on a temporary basis. Prolonged exposure to moisture will lead to degradation.
